Day 8 - 100 days, 100 courses (Thursday, March 21, 2019)

For the second day in a row, it was dark and stormy. However, on Day 8 the weatherman predicted rain, which scared off all of the other golfers. My tee time was for 10:30 and as usual I arrived an hour early, so the starter offered to let me get out early and beat the rain.

Going off at around 9:45, I just squeaked in ahead of a twosome. The tee box on the first hole was the last time that I saw even a glimpse of them. I love to play fast, and Upland Hills allowed me to do that. I played 18 in 1:40 and didn't see another golfer until the 18th green.

The course was narrow which gave me a few fits. Didn't need to be more than 15 yards off-line with your drive before you were in trees. Nothing too bad, just a little inconvenient. My putting was a little better, I guess when you play that fast you aren't paralyzed by analysis.

The rain came when I was on #11 but I was better prepared this time. Put on my rain pants, rain jacket, and gloves and just kept going. Really didn't bother me at all.

I shot an 88 and lost one ball where I should have been able to find it. But when I am playing fast, I don't look too long. Of course with the new rules, you only have 3 minutes to look.

On to Vegas!

The course for the most part is worth the money. It gets a lot of play because there are not any courses close by and the local community of seniors takes advantage of its proximity. The management is more interested in how much money they can make. Their view, you don't have to play here, I have lots of people who do want to play here I am not here to make this the best course. Mike (general manager) believes he has the best greens in the Inland Empire. But what he has is greens that are not rolled and cut occasionally so good golfers don't come back. Bunkers are not maintained. Grass is cut in the fairways and left there so it slows the ball down off the tee. This could be a very good course if management would listen to players. . The biggest problem with course and the reason more revenue is not generated is from the complete lack of leadership and the understanding that the course is there to optimize profit , not maximize and provide a maintained golf course for all levels of golfers.

A great men's club and it is close to home but other than that, the place is the worst golf course I ever play. Owners and GM are clueless and don't know how to operate a couse/

I have played this course off and on over the past 8 years. I have seen it well maintained and I've seen it poorly maintained. A little over a year ago I saw the course hit rock bottom. They have made some improvements primarily on the greens but that's it. The tee boxes are rough and uneven. The fairway trees are overgrown and in some cases impede what should be normal play. Fallen branches are not cleaned up consistently.

They will not put any money back into the course. The fairways are thin, the tee boxes are a mess, good luck finding a level tee box. They have no marshalls.

The rack-rate price for this course is extremely pricy, based on the fact that the condition of the course continues to go down hill. If you pay more than $25 to play this course, you've paid too much. While I do play this course often (when it's windy at the other courses), I have watched UHCC continue to go downhill. They do not rake bunkers in the AM, the greens are pock-marked with unfixed ball marks, fairways are covered with unrepaired divits and there isn't one level tee-box. I was scheduled to play on Saturday, Jan 15th. When I arrived, they were out of carts. I was told they would have a cart within 30 minutes, so I went and practiced putting. After 30 minutes, I went back to the pro shop to check in, and was again told that I needed to wait another 30 minutes. I chose to go home and watch the football games instead. UHCC - please repair your fairways and greens and rake your traps in the morning. You've really gone downhill these last few years!

The Senior Group with which I play is now going to play here monthly. On our first trip there early in April 2010, the greens were being punched and sanded, so we had to play the back nine twice. The second time we played the course, two weeks later, the entire 18 was open and the greens, especially, were in good shape. The Marshall/Starter was especially courteous and helpful, particularly on the day we had to play the back nine twice to get in 18 holes.
